How commands work
Everything FiveUnity does inside Discord runs through slash commands. This page explains how members find them, who is allowed to run what, and how you turn commands off or limit them for your own server.

#Slash commands and the /help menu
Type / in any channel and pick a FiveUnity command from the list. Discord will not let you send it until every required option is filled in, and options marked as autocomplete suggest valid values (departments, applications, saved embeds, keywords) as you type.
/help on its own opens a menu with a drop-down of every command category. Pick a category and you get the commands in it with their one-line descriptions. /help command:<name> explains a single command instead: its description, its options and subcommands with (Required) marked, and the channels it is limited to if you have set an Only in list.
Some commands are deliberately kept out of that menu:
- Commands you have turned off are hidden from members. Administrators still see them, marked
(disabled). - Setup-only commands are shown only to staff: the server owner, anyone with Administrator, and anyone holding a role that belongs to a permission group.
- Vendor commands are the FiveUnity team's own invite-event tooling. They are only deployed to servers running that event, they are never listed in
/help, and they cannot be granted to a permission group.
/help lists what exists, not what you personally may run. A command showing in the menu can still answer "You do not have permission to use this command". See below.
Two actions are not slash commands at all: Save Embed and Open in Embed Builder are message actions. Right-click (or long-press) any message, then choose them under Apps.
#Who can run what
Three things decide whether a command runs.
1. Discord's own permission gate. Some commands are declared to Discord as requiring a Discord permission: Manage Messages, Manage Roles, Manage Server or Administrator. Discord hides those commands entirely from members who lack the permission. Each reference page says when a command has one of these gates. You can change that gate yourself in Discord under Server Settings โ Integrations โ FiveUnity.
2. FiveUnity permission groups. A group is a name, a set of roles, and a list of permissions. If a member holds one of the group's roles and the group lists the command, they may run it. Granting a whole command also grants its subcommands, so a group with ticket covers /ticket claim, /ticket add and the rest; grant a single subcommand instead when you want finer control. See Permissions.
3. The server owner and Administrators always pass. Both of them bypass the permission-group check on every command, and they are also exempt from cooldowns.
A set of commands is open to every member no matter what, because they are how people use the bot day to day:
/help ยท /apply ยท /suggest new ยท /store ยท /leaderboard ยท /myassets ยท /docs ยท /ping ยท /clock in ยท /clock out ยท /clock status ยท /gang ยท /rolerequest ยท /loa-request ยท /vouch ยท /ai ask ยท /logs stafflogs ยท /redeem ยท /subscription
Being open still means "the permission check is skipped", not "anything goes": /apply needs an application that is open, /suggest new needs the suggestion channel, /vouch obeys the Role required to vouch setting (staff only until you set one), /ai ask answers only once an admin switches it on, /logs stafflogs answers only the server owner and the viewers they picked, and /redeem checks that you are the server owner or an Administrator before it spends a code.
Press Load defaults on the Permissions page and FiveUnity creates an eight-step ladder. Each step includes everything below it, so you only have to decide where a role belongs:
| Group | What it adds |
|---|---|
| Support | The ticket desk: claim, rename, escalate and transcribe tickets, log sits, clock on duty, look up a linked player. |
| Moderator | Everyday moderation: warnings, timeouts, kicks, purges, case history, ratings and application review. |
| Senior Moderator | Discord bans and role control: temporary and sticky roles, the status blacklist, gang strikes and ticket resets. |
| Admin | Runs community modules: embeds, giveaways, keywords, self roles, stats channels, translation, verification, applications, queues, gangs, departments and ownership sheets. |
| Senior Admin | Integrations and money: Tebex, linked Discords, restricted-role bindings and read-only backups. |
| Head Admin | Full configuration: the /setup panel, /refresh, and restoring or deleting backups. |
| Management | Every remaining permission, including all FiveM permissions, except the server reset. New non-FiveM commands land here automatically. |
| Owner | Everything, including the irreversible /factory-reset. |
The groups start empty: loading the defaults creates them but assigns no roles, so nothing changes until you put your own roles on the steps. Loading defaults again after a FiveUnity update only ever adds; it never removes a permission you took out.
"Protected" and "open to everyone" are different things. A protected command such as /setup cannot be turned off, but it still checks permissions before it runs.
#Per-server controls
Dashboard โ Server setup โ Slash commands lists every command the bot knows, straight from the live bot, and lets you change these per command:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enable toggle | Turn a command off. Anyone who tries it gets a private notice saying it is turned off on this server. |
| Only in | Limit the command to the channels or categories you pick. Leave it empty and the command works everywhere. Picking a category covers the channels inside it. |
| Never in | Block the command in these channels or categories. Never in always wins, even over Only in. |
| Cooldown (seconds) | Make people wait between uses. The reply tells them when they can try again. |
| Cooldown applies to | Whether the wait is per user, per channel, or shared by the whole server. |
You can also enable or disable a whole category at once, and under Visibility & deploy you can tick Hide setup-only commands to keep configuration commands out of the / list, then re-sync so Discord picks the change up. The owner and Administrators skip cooldowns so they can always fix things. See Slash commands.
#Commands that can never be turned off
Six commands ignore the controls above, because they are the ways back out of a broken configuration, the billing commands, and the way people find everything else:
/setup ยท /factory-reset ยท /refresh ยท /redeem ยท /subscription ยท /help
Trying to disable or restrict one of them is refused; disabling a whole category simply skips them.
#Message commands and the prefix
FiveUnity's own features are all slash commands. The message prefix (! unless you change it) is for the custom commands you write yourself, such as !rules or !ip. Build those under Dashboard โ Content โ Custom commands, and change the prefix there or with /setprefix. See Custom commands.
Keyword auto-responses are separate again: those fire on a word appearing anywhere in a message, with no prefix. See /keyword on Utility commands.
#Without an active subscription
Until a plan is active on the server, every command except /redeem and /subscription answers with a private notice telling the owner or an Administrator to run /redeem. Activate a plan and everything unlocks immediately.
A few individual features additionally need a particular plan. When one of those is used on a lower plan the reply names the plan required. Side Discords linked to a main server inherit the main server's plan. See Plans and billing and Linked servers.
#How to read the reference pages
Every command on the reference pages is written the same way:
- A heading with the command exactly as you type it.
- One line saying what it does.
- An options table, when the command takes any.
- Who can use it by default: what happens before you change any permissions.
- An example you can copy.
The options table has three columns:
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Option | The exact name Discord shows. A row like add user means the user option of the add subcommand; a row that is just add is the subcommand itself. |
| Required | Yes means Discord will not let you send the command without it. No means you can leave it out. |
| What it is | What to put in it, and what happens if you leave it out. |
#The categories
| Category | What it holds | Reference |
|---|---|---|
| General | Commands your members use: clocking in, gangs, role requests, applications, suggestions, docs and billing. | General commands |
| Staff | Ticket handling, escalation, staff duty, sits, metrics, linked servers and ownership tracking. | Staff commands |
| Moderation | Bans, kicks, warnings, timeouts, purges, mod logs and related tooling. | Moderation commands |
| AI | The AI Assistant's control panel, status and model check, the staff tools (/ai guide, /ai draft, /ai catchup, /ai write) and /ai ask for members. Pro. | AI commands |
| Admin | Server-wide configuration: /setup, backups, applications, queues, role bindings, suggestions, prefix and resets. | Admin and setup commands |
| Utility | Embeds, giveaways, polls, keywords, self roles, stats channels, translation, verification and the Tebex store. | Utility commands |
| FiveM | Bridge, txAdmin, gameplay-log lookup and vouch setup permissions. Management and above receive these by default. | FiveM commands |
FiveM-specific commands may still be filed under their Discord-facing command category for /help, but every one is grouped under FiveM on the permissions page.
