Invite the bot and sign in
Two things get you started: add the FiveUnity bot to your Discord server, and sign in to the dashboard with the same Discord account. Both take about a minute.
Where: fiveunity.com โ Continue with Discord โ Dashboard
#Add FiveUnity to a server
- Sign in at fiveunity.com (see below) so you land on the Dashboard.
- Press Add FiveUnity to a server at the top right of the Dashboard page. It opens Discord's authorisation screen in a new tab.
- Pick your server from the drop-down. Only servers where you have Manage Server appear in Discord's list.
- Review the permissions and press Authorise.
- Back on the Dashboard, press Refresh list. The server appears as a card.
#What the invite asks for
The invite adds FiveUnity as a bot with slash commands, and requests the Administrator permission.
| The invite asks for | Why |
|---|---|
| Bot | Adds FiveUnity as a member of your server so it can post, moderate and manage roles. |
| Slash commands | Registers /setup, /ticket, /apply and the rest so your members can use them. |
| Administrator | Covers every action FiveUnity performs, in one permission. |
Administrator is strongly recommended. FiveUnity creates categories and channels for tickets, builds and edits roles, sets channel overwrites so only the right staff see a ticket, times members out, bans and unbans, manages webhooks for logging, and moves people between voice channels. Granting those one at a time is easy to get wrong, and the most common cause of "the bot did nothing" is a missing permission on one channel.
If your community's policy does not allow Administrator, FiveUnity still runs, but any feature whose permission is missing will fail silently or with a Discord error, and you will need to grant permissions module by module.
Discord's own role hierarchy still applies whatever you grant. FiveUnity can only manage roles that sit below its own role in Server Settings โ Roles, and can only moderate members whose highest role is below its own. Drag the FiveUnity role near the top of your role list.
#Sign in on fiveunity.com
- Go to fiveunity.com.
- Press Continue with Discord.
- Discord asks to share your account and your list of servers. Press Authorise.
- You land on the Dashboard, showing every server you can manage.
FiveUnity asks Discord for two things only: your identity (user id, username, avatar) and the list of servers you are in. It never asks for your email, your messages, or permission to act as you.
You stay signed in for 24 hours, then you are asked to sign in again.
#Who can manage a server
To open a server in the dashboard you need all three:
- FiveUnity must be in that Discord server.
- You must be a member of it.
- You must have Administrator or Manage Server on it.
Either permission is enough; you do not need both. There is no separate FiveUnity password or invite: your Discord permissions are the whole access model.
Permissions are checked live against Discord on every request, not once at sign-in. If someone loses Manage Server, their next click in the dashboard is refused; if they are promoted, they can open the server straight away. If a promotion has not shown up in the server list yet, press Refresh list.
A couple of actions are deliberately stricter and require full Administrator rather than Manage Server: wiping a server before restoring a backup, and resetting a server. One is looser: members whose Discord roles were given edit access to your documentation can sign in and use the documentation editor without being able to open the rest of the dashboard. See Documentation.
#"No overlapping servers found"
If the Dashboard is empty you will see:
No overlapping servers found The bot must be in the server, and you need Administrator or Manage Server.
That means there is no server that both you and FiveUnity are in with the right permission. Work through this list:
| Cause | Fix |
|---|---|
| The bot has not been invited yet | Press Invite the bot on the empty state, or Add FiveUnity to a server. |
| You invited it to a different server than the one you are looking for | Repeat the invite and pick the right server. |
| You only have a staff role, not Administrator or Manage Server | Ask the server owner to grant one of them. |
| You just gained the permission, or just invited the bot | Press Refresh list: the button re-reads your servers and shows Refreshingโฆ while it works. |
| You signed in with the wrong Discord account | Sign out and sign back in with the account that manages the server. |
If instead you see Could not reach the bot API, that is on our side, not yours. Press Try again, and if it persists tell us in your support channel; we reply within 24 hours.
#Sign out and revoke access
Sign out sits at the top right of every signed-in page. It ends your dashboard session and returns you to the homepage. It does not remove the bot from your Discord server and does not change any settings.
To disconnect FiveUnity from your Discord account entirely, revoke it in Discord under User Settings โ Authorised Apps. To remove the bot from a server, kick it like any other member. See Privacy and your data for what happens to your settings afterwards.
