Slash commands

The Slash commands page lists every command the bot has and lets you turn one off for your server, keep it to certain channels, or put a cooldown on it.

#What the list shows

Commands are grouped by category: Admin, General, Moderation, Server, Staff and Utility. Use Search to match a name or description, and the Category control to filter (it also picks the target for the bulk buttons).

Each row shows:

  • The command as members type it, /ban for example. Context-menu actions such as Save Embed have no slash and carry a context menu badge.
  • Its description, plus badges for Protected, Public (anyone may run it), Setup only, and not deployed when it is being kept out of Discord's menu.
  • Granted to โ€ฆ: the permission groups that allow it, linked through to the Permissions page. If it says Not granted to any group, only the server owner and members with Discord's Administrator permission can run it.
  • Needs โ€ฆ in Discord: the Discord permission the command itself demands, such as Ban Members for /ban. Discord enforces that before the bot is even asked.
  • A subcommands expander for commands like /ticket or /backup, listing each subcommand, its description, and the permission node that grants it.

#Turn a command off

Flip the switch on the row. Members who run it get an ephemeral "โ›” /command is turned off on this server."; nobody can use it, including staff, until you turn it back on. Nothing is deleted; the command's own data stays exactly where it is.

/help hides commands you have turned off from everyone except Administrators, who still see them listed with (disabled) next to the name.

To clear out a whole category, pick it in the Category filter and use Enable all in โ€ฆ / Disable all in โ€ฆ. Protected commands are skipped and the toast tells you how many were left alone. Up to 100 commands are changed at a time.

#Protected commands

/setup, /factory-reset, /refresh, /redeem, /subscription and /help can never be turned off or restricted. They are the recovery, billing and discovery routes, so you can always get back in. Their switch and Edit button are greyed out.

#Limit it to channels

Press Edit on a row.

SettingWhat it does
Only inThe command works nowhere else. Leave it empty to allow it everywhere. Picking a category covers every channel inside it. Up to 25 entries.
Never inBlocked here even when the channel is on the Only in list. Up to 25 entries.
Cooldown (seconds)How long before it can be run again. 0 means no cooldown; the maximum is 3600 (one hour).
Cooldown applies toUser: each member waits their own cooldown. Channel: one run per channel. Server: one run for the whole server.

Press Save changes. Members blocked by a channel rule see "โ›” /command can only be used in #channelโ€ฆ" (or "cannot be used in this channel" when you have only used Never in). Members on cooldown see "๐Ÿ•’ /command is on cooldown. Try again in โ€ฆ".

The checks run in this order: turned off, then channels, then permission, then cooldown. That means a member who is not allowed to run a command never learns its cooldown or burns it.

Tip

The server owner and anyone with Administrator never wait on a cooldown, so test cooldowns with a normal member account.

A server can hold up to 200 per-command overrides. Setting a command back to its defaults (on, no channels, no cooldown) removes its override rather than storing one.

#Visibility & deploy

Hide setup-only commands keeps the one-off setup commands out of Discord's command menu once your server is configured. They are not deleted: turn the switch off, re-sync, and they come straight back.

Discord only notices when the command list is deployed again, so the page asks whether you want to re-sync right after you flip the switch.

Re-sync slash commands deploys this server's command list to Discord again. Nothing you have configured is lost. It is limited to once a minute per server, and Discord can take a minute to show the change. Reach for it when the command menu looks stale, when a command is missing, or after changing the switch above.

/refresh does the same job from inside Discord. It is a setup-only command, so it is hidden from /help for non-staff and disappears from the menu when Hide setup-only commands is on.

Note

Turning a command off, restricting it to channels and setting cooldowns all take effect immediately. Only the visibility switch needs a re-sync.

#How this fits with permissions

Two different questions, answered in two places:

  • Who is allowed?: Permissions, plus the Discord permission the command declares.
  • Is it available at all, where, and how often?: this page.

A command has to pass both. Turning /ban off here blocks it for your moderators even though their group grants it, and granting /ban to a group does nothing while it is turned off.

Without an active subscription the bot refuses every command except /redeem and /subscription, whatever these settings say. See Plans and billing.
