FiveUnityManual

Protection

Protection is FiveUnity's automatic defence: message filters that act on individual messages, anti-raid that reacts to a burst of joins, and anti-nuke that stops a single account destroying the server. Join to create shares the page, because it is the other thing that manages channels for you.

Note

Where: Dashboard โ†’ Safety โ†’ Protection ยท In Discord: alerts are posted to the channel you choose below

#How it works

Every filter action is recorded as a numbered case in the same ledger as your staff's own moderation, so automatic and human moderation share one history. See Moderation and Staff.

Before any filter runs, protection skips:

  • the server owner
  • bots
  • anyone with Manage Messages, Moderate Members or Administrator
  • members holding an exempt role, and messages in an exempt channel or its category

Only the last is yours to configure. Moderator permissions are exempt automatically: a filter that times out your own staff mid-raid makes things worse.

SettingWhat it does
Protection enabledMaster switch. Nothing below runs while this is off.
Alert channelWhere automod, raid and nuke alerts are posted. Falls back to your staff log.
Exempt rolesNever acted on. Anyone who can already moderate is exempt automatically.
Exempt channelsFilters are skipped in these channels and their categories.

Changes apply immediately; there is no wait for a restart.

#Message filters

Discord's own AutoMod already covers plain keywords. These add role-aware exemptions, actions beyond deleting, and a shared case history.

FilterCatches
Block Discord invitesdiscord.gg, discord.com/invite, discord.io and similar.
Block linksAny domain that is not on your Allowed domains list. Subdomains of an allowed domain are allowed too. Up to 200 domains, one per line.
Block wordsYour Blocked words list, matched as whole words, so a short entry will not trip on a longer word. Up to 500 words, one per line.
Block mention spamMentions per message: distinct users and roles counted together, between 2 and 50. Default 6.
Block message spamMessages within Within seconds from one member. 2-50 messages, in a window of 1-60 seconds. Default 6 in 5.
Report ghost pingsSomeone mentions a member then deletes the message. Reported only; nobody is punished.

Each filter except ghost pings picks its own Action: Delete, Warn, Timeout, Kick or Ban. Choosing Timeout reveals a Timeout length (minutes) box, from 1 minute to 40,320 (28 days, Discord's maximum), with its own Save button so a half-typed number is never sent.

The message is deleted whatever the action is. If FiveUnity cannot carry out the rest (the member is above it in the role list, or a permission is missing) the deletion and the case still happen, and the failure is logged. Members are DMed when the action is Warn or Timeout, and every action posts an alert naming the member, the filter, the action taken, the channel and the case number.

Tip

The Allowed domains and Blocked words boxes are saved with their own Save domains / Save words buttons, not by the toggles above them.

#Anti-raid

When too many accounts join inside a window, FiveUnity locks the server down and then lifts itself.

SettingWhat it does
Anti-raid enabledTurns the join watcher on.
JoinsHow many joins trip a lockdown. 2-100, default 10.
Within secondsThe window those joins are counted in. 5-600, default 30.
Lockdown minutesHow long the lockdown lasts. 1-1,440. Default 15.
Raise verification levelSets the server to High for the duration, then puts it back.
Channels to lockSend Messages is denied to @everyone in these channels during a lockdown, then restored.

A lockdown posts a Raid lockdown started alert with what tripped it, when it lifts, how many channels were locked and whether verification was raised. Further joins do not re-trip a lockdown that is already running.

Lifting restores exactly what was changed: the previous verification level is recorded before it is raised, and only the channels actually locked are unlocked: back to inheriting their permissions, not pinned to an explicit allow. FiveUnity checks every minute for lockdowns whose timer has run out. To end one early, the panel says when the lockdown lifts and offers a Lift lockdown now button while it is running.

Warning

Anti-raid needs Manage Guild to raise the verification level and Manage Channels to lock channels. Without those it does what it can and logs the rest.

#Anti-nuke

Anti-nuke watches destructive actions per account and trips a breaker when one account crosses a threshold inside the window. It is aimed at a compromised staff account.

SettingWhat it does
Anti-nuke enabledTurns the breaker on.
Channel deletionsThreshold for channels deleted by one account. Default 3.
Role deletionsThreshold for roles deleted by one account. Default 3.
BansThreshold for bans by one account. Default 5.
KicksThreshold for kicks by one account. Default 5.
Within secondsThe shared window all four are counted in. 10-3,600, default 60.
ResponseAlert only, Strip roles, Kick or Ban.
Exempt accountsTrusted bots or admins that legitimately do bulk work.

Each threshold is a whole number between 1 and 100. Strip roles is the default deliberately: it stops the damage without removing someone who was simply compromised, and it is reversible. Only roles FiveUnity sits above can be removed.

The server owner, FiveUnity itself and anyone on the exemption list can never trip the breaker. Attribution comes from the audit log, so FiveUnity needs View Audit Log; without it the breaker stays silent rather than punishing the wrong account.

When it trips, the alert names the account, what tripped it and what was done about it. It goes to the alert channel with a ping for the server owner, and to the owner by DM.

Danger

Anti-nuke stops the bleeding; it cannot undo deletions. Pair it with a saved snapshot so you can rebuild the channels and roles that were already lost. See Backups. Save a backup before you need one.

#Join to create

A member joins a hub voice channel and gets their own channel, which disappears once everyone leaves. Useful for gang and crew channels, department briefings and scene voice, without an admin creating channels by hand.

Pick a New hub channel and press Add hub. The panel shows how many of the maximum 10 hubs you have, and how many channels are live right now. Name the hub something obvious, like Join to create: members will click it expecting it to do something.

SettingWhat it does
Channel name template{user} becomes the member's name, {count} a running number. Up to 100 characters. Defaults to {user}'s channel.
User limitApplied to each new channel. 0-99; 0 for unlimited.
CategoryWhere new channels are placed. Defaults to the hub's own category.
Owner control panelPosts lock, rename, user limit, disconnect and claim buttons in each new channel.

#Owner controls

When the control panel is on, the member who created the channel gets buttons in it:

ButtonWhat it does
LockDenies Connect to @everyone, so only people already inside stay.
UnlockPuts it back to normal.
User limitSets a cap between 0 and 99.
RenameRenames the channel. Discord only allows two renames every 10 minutes.
Disconnect someoneTakes a user ID, disconnects that member and blocks them from rejoining that channel.
ClaimTakes ownership, but only once the original owner has left and only if you are in the channel.

The owner is granted channel management on their own channel only, so the buttons work for an ordinary member with no server-wide permissions.

#Cleanup

A channel is deleted as soon as the last person leaves. FiveUnity also sweeps on startup and every five minutes, so a restart never leaves a category full of empty channels, and a channel whose member could not be moved into it is removed again rather than left behind. Removing a hub stops new channels being created but leaves existing ones alone: people may still be talking in them, and the sweep clears them once they empty.

Warning

Join to create needs Manage Channels to create and delete channels, and Move Members to move a member into their new channel and to power Disconnect someone.

  • Moderation: ban logs, verification, and the commands your staff use.
  • Staff: the case ledger every automod action lands in.
  • Backups: snapshots to rebuild from after a nuke attempt.
