Gangs
Gangs turn a Discord role into a faction with named leaders and a roster. Leaders add and remove their own members in Discord, members can walk out on their own, and anyone who loses a gang role sits out a cooldown before another gang can take them.

#How it works
A gang is a Discord role, one or more leaders, and a member roster. Staff create the gang and appoint the first leader; from then on the leader runs the roster with /gang add and /gang remove, a member can leave with /gang leave, and FiveUnity keeps the Discord role in step.
Four rules are enforced everywhere:
- A member can belong to one gang at a time. This holds for leaders too:
/gang-admin add-leaderrefuses anyone already on another gang's roster. - A gang must keep at least one leader.
- Only staff change leadership. A leader cannot leave their own gang, and
/gang removecannot reach another leader. - A Discord role can only be registered as one gang, and gang names must be unique.
Each gang can also have a member limit. Once it is full, new adds are refused unless a configured bypass role raises the cap: when the recruit or anyone already on the roster holds a bypass role, the gang's effective cap becomes the base limit plus its extra bypass slots, and anyone may fill those seats.
FiveUnity needs Manage Roles, and its own role must sit above every gang role in Server Settings โ Roles. Without that it cannot add or remove faction roles and the action is refused with an explanation.
#Create a gang
Fill in Create gang and press Create gang. Creating your first gang switches the gangs module on.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | Display name, up to 80 characters. Leave it blank in Discord and the role name is used. |
| Faction role | The Discord role leaders hand out. Required. |
| Leader Discord ID | The first leader. Required. They are given the faction role and added to the roster. |
To copy a Discord user ID, turn on Settings โ Advanced โ Developer Mode in Discord, then right-click the member and choose Copy User ID.
#The Gangs list
Each gang shows its member count, its strike count when it has any, the faction role, and the leaders. Rosters longer than ten members collapse behind a Members button.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Add leader ID | Promotes a member to leader. They are added to the roster and given the faction role if they do not have it. They must be in the server, not in another gang, and not on a cooldown. |
Remove leader 1234 | Drops that leader. Only offered when the gang has more than one. |
| Mass-add IDs โ Mass add | Paste up to 25 user IDs or mentions and add them in one go. Bypasses the role cooldown. |
| Remove on a member row | Takes the faction role and starts the role cooldown. |
| Delete | Deletes the gang record. The Discord role stays and members are not kicked. |
Mass add reports how many were added and how many were skipped, with the reason for each: already in another gang, not in the server, and so on.
#Member limit
The member limit applies per gang to every new roster seat, including leaders and mass-adds. Existing members stay even if the limit is later lowered. 0 means unlimited, up to a maximum of 10,000.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Members per gang | The cap for each gang; 0 turns the cap off. Edit it on Gangs or Modules. |
| Extra bypass slots | How many seats past the base cap a bypass role unlocks. Example: cap 25 and extra 5 allows up to 30 once a bypass-role holder is on the roster (or is being added). |
| Bypass roles | A member holding any selected role raises that gang's effective cap by the extra slots for everyone, without waiting for the base cap to fill first. |
#Role cooldowns
When a member loses their gang role (removed by a leader, removed by staff, left of their own accord with /gang leave, or the role taken off by hand in Discord) they are dropped from the roster and put on a cooldown. While it runs, no gang can add them.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Cooldown length (hours) | 0 turns it off. Up to 2160 hours (90 days). Default 168 (7 days). |
| Quick pick | Off, 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, 30 days. Sets the field; press Save cooldown to apply. |
| Reset | Clears one member's cooldown so another gang can take them now. |
Active cooldowns are listed underneath with the member, when it expires, and why it was set. Admin mass-add always bypasses the cooldown and says so in the log.
A sole leader who loses the role by hand keeps their seat on record, because a gang cannot be left leaderless, but they still get the cooldown. Replace them with /gang-admin add-leader.
#Module defaults
The Modules page carries the gang-wide settings, under Gangs.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Gangs enabled | Master switch. Off, adding and removing gang members is refused. |
| Manager role | Recorded with the module. Access to the gang commands themselves comes from Permissions. |
| Log channel | Where every gang action embed is posted. |
| Leave cooldown (hours) | The same setting as Role cooldowns on the Gangs page: change it in either place. |
| Members per gang / bypass roles / extra slots | The same setting as Member limit on the Gangs page: change it in either place. |
#In Discord
#For leaders and members
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/gang add user: [gang:] | Adds a member to a gang you lead. |
/gang remove user: [gang:] | Removes a member and starts their cooldown. It cannot be aimed at another leader. |
/gang leave [gang:] | Leaves the gang you are in. Asks you to confirm first. Leaders cannot use it. |
/gang leaders [gang:] | Shows the leaders of a gang. Leave gang out to list the ones you lead. |
/gang list [gang:] | Shows a gang you lead: every member with their join date and the leaders marked, the strike history, and who is on a leave cooldown this gang started. |
gang is only needed when you lead more than one (or, for leave, if you somehow belong to more than one), and it autocompletes. Replies are only visible to you.
/gang list answers with the three things a leader needs before the next roster move: the roster in join order with the leaders marked ๐ and the count against the member cap, the strike history newest first (strikes expire 30 days after they are issued), and the leave cooldowns this gang's own removals started, so a leader can see when a kicked member may be taken back. Long sections summarize with ...and N more rather than failing.
#Leaving a gang
/gang leave is the member's own exit. It shows what leaving costs, and nothing happens until the member presses Leave gang:
- The faction role comes off and they are dropped from the roster.
- The same leave cooldown a kick applies starts, so leaving is not a way around it. Only staff can clear it early with
/gang-admin reset-cooldown. - The gang log records it as Gang member left, so staff can tell a walk-out from a kick.
A leader is refused with a note to ask staff for /gang-admin remove-leader first. That keeps the rule that a gang always has a leader, and stops a leader dissolving their own command by walking out. The same rule blocks /gang remove from reaching a fellow leader, so one leader cannot take a gang by kicking the other out.
#When a member leaves Discord
Someone who leaves the server is taken off every gang roster they were on, and the gang log records it. No cooldown is applied: leaving Discord is not a gang action, and a member who is kicked or leaves for unrelated reasons should not come back barred from every gang. A sole leader keeps their seat on record, because a gang cannot be left leaderless.
Staff can also clear the seat of someone who has already gone, by passing them to /gang-admin remove user: (or Remove on the dashboard). There is no role to take off in that case, only the record.
#For staff
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/gang-admin create role: leader: [name:] | Registers a role as a gang with its first leader. |
/gang-admin delete gang: | Deletes the gang record. |
/gang-admin set-role gang_name: role: | Changes the role leaders hand out. |
/gang-admin add-leader / remove-leader | Manages leaders. A gang must keep one. |
/gang-admin leaders [gang:] / list | Reads the roster and leadership. |
/gang-admin mass-add gang: users: | Mentions or IDs separated by spaces, up to 25. Bypasses the cooldown. |
/gang-admin remove gang: user: | Kicks a member and applies the cooldown. |
/gang-admin reset-cooldown user: | Clears a member's cooldown. |
#Strikes
Strikes are a disciplinary record against a gang, not against a member.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/strike-gang gang: reason: | Issues a strike to the gang that owns that role, and posts it publicly with the running total. |
/list-strikes | Lists every gang that currently has strikes, with counts. |
/delete-strike gangname: strikeid: | Removes one strike. Both options autocomplete; pick the strike from the list. |
Strikes expire automatically after 30 days. Live strike counts appear on the Gangs page as a badge, in full on Dashboard โ Safety โ Staff, and on the gang itself through /gang list for its leader, all read-only: issuing and clearing strikes stays in Discord.
#What gets logged
Everything below is posted to the gangs Log channel:
- Gang created, gang deleted, gang role updated
- Gang leader added, gang leader removed
- Gang member added, including whether the cooldown was bypassed or the member cap was boosted by a bypass role
- Gang member removed, with who did it and when the cooldown ends, or Role removed in Discord (outside the bot) when the role was pulled by hand
- Gang member left, when the member ran
/gang leavethemselves - Gang member left the server, when they left Discord and were taken off the roster
- Gang cooldown reset, with who reset it
Strikes go to your staff log instead, so disciplinary history stays with the rest of your moderation record.
#Tips
Keep the cooldown at 7 days or longer if gang-hopping is a problem. It applies however the role comes off, so members cannot dodge it by having a leader strip the role manually.
Deleting a gang leaves the Discord role in place and does not remove it from anyone. Delete or rename the role separately if you want the faction gone for good.
